Welcome!

The College and Career Office is located in Room A194. Come visit us and make use of our services. We’re here to help you!

One-to-One Advising – The College and Career Advisor is available for conferences about college planning. Every student is urged to make an appointment either in the spring of the junior year or fall of the senior year. Appointments are on a first come, first served, limited basis.

College Presentation – During the spring term the College Advisor holds a junior-class presentation to discuss the college application process and to answer any questions students may have.

College Visits – Each year approximately 30 to 40 colleges visit our high school to discuss college programs. The most up-to-date list of visits is posted outside the CCO, and announcements are made daily. Students who are interested in attending one of these sessions obtain a pass in the College and Career Office during their free period.

College Newsletter – At the beginning of nearly every month, Ms. O’Connell posts the latest edition of the College Newsletter to the College Office page of wagnerhigh.net. Paper copies are available in the College Office. ALL COLLEGE BOUND JUNIORS AND SENIORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR READING EACH NEWSLETTER! SAT registration deadlines, college application deadlines, scholarships, college events, and other vital news are included.

College Catalogue Files - An extensive collection of catalogues, reference books, and financial aid materials are available for your use. If you do not find what you are looking for, or do not know what to look for, please ask the College and Career staff.

College Applications
– The College and Career Office processes all college applications, with the exception of CUNY, which is completed entirely online. Paper SUNY applications are available in the CCO, although you must obtain private college applications directly from the college by contacting them via phone, mail, or internet. If you apply to a college online, you must still request a transcript in person at the CCO. The exception is CUNY, which uses your OSIS number to access your transcript electronically.

College Entrance Exams
– Materials for the SAT I, SAT II-subject tests, ACT (American College Testing), and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) are available in the College and Career Office. Fee waivers are available if you qualify based on income. To receive a fee waiver, you must be eligible for free or reduced lunch whether you eat lunch or not. Fill out a lunch form at the beginning of the year or in room 192.

Scholarship Information
– The College Office has information about the types of scholarships available, how to apply, criteria, etc. Scholarships are publicized each month in the College Newsletter. Students who had a one-on-one appointment with Ms. O’Connell may be contacted for specific scholarships. Scholarship applications are processed in the College and Career Office if official transcripts and recommendations are required.

Financial Aid Counseling – A Financial Aid Information Night is held each November. Information on how to fill out the FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid Profile is available in the CCO. You cannot fill out the FAFSA form until January of your senior year.

Summer Programs – These programs offer classes and activities ranging from academic to artistic to athletic. Many are local, but many more are available in New York State, other states, and even internationally. These programs offer invaluable experiences that can help you focus on a particular subject or career. Summer programs can really help round out your college resume. Financial aid is often available. Check bulletin boards and in the CCO itself for more information.
